Hard Drives?

by homanj . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

I recently installed a large hard drive and slaved it to my smaller exsiting hard drive. I now wish to switch to the large hard drive as master and format the smaller drive. All previous attempts failed, when I master the new drive and enter CMOS everything is recognized and seems to be fine. An error occurs on boot telling me I am missing an NTDLF file. I have located the file on my WinXP cd and could create a boot disk. I wish to find a way to make the large drive a stand alone drive and format the small drive. Also, the OS won’t let me format the smaller drive, telling me that the drive partition is unformatable. Knowing the location of the boot file I need I was wondering if there was anyway to place it on the drive and make the OS know its there and everything work. Also, with XP the fdisk is gone and is something different now, so FIXMBR doesn’t work, not sure if it did work if it would correct the problem without data loss. Please help!
