HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE PROBLEMS?

1. I had an ADAPTEC AHA-1542CF ISA, i tried to connect my HP CD-WRITER 6020 and got “BIOS NOT INSTALLED, NOT DEVICE INT13h” error message after POST even finding my HP;
2. Now i replaced de card to NCR 53c810 PCI with a SCSI connector and i can seedrive E: BUT I CAN?T READ IT. Is it some kind of missed configuration with these adapters os it is hardware incompatibility?
