HD Recognized by Bios but not by Dos/Win

I have a celeron 366mhz, with a Maxtor ATA 90320D2, 3GB Hard Disk, recently after a crash, the hard disk is detected by the bios, but not by the operating system, I tried booting from a startup disk and it does not work either, it creates a ramdriveon the c: drive and fdisk does not recognize the hard disk either, I tried win98 and winMe nothing. Please help me!
