Help! Can’t send email to all addresses

by chuck.hardee . Updated 24 years, 9 months ago

Hello all, and let me thank you for taking the time to look at this.

I am running MS Outlook 2000, MS Exchange server 5.5 with SP4 applied and am trying to send email. More to the point, I can send mail to some addresses, but not to others. For example, I cannot send to hotmail.com addresses.

This problem has been ongoing for about 6 months now, at least that’s when the first need to mail to a hotmail address occurred.

Last week I somehow lost my SMTP connection from exchange and afterexhaustive attempts at correcting the problem, ended up uninstalling and reinstalling exchange server and service pack 4.

Can anyone give me an idea as to what could be the problem?

Exchange gives out generic messages as follows:

A mail message was not sent due to a protocol error.

554 Transaction failed
The message that caused this notification was:

To:
From:
Subject: test: 09/19/2001 09:34

And:

Your message did not reach some or all ofthe intended recipients.

Subject: test: 09/19/2001 09:34
Sent: 9/19/01 9:34 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Hotmail (E-mail) on 9/19/01 9:35 AM
Unable to deliver the message due to a communications failure
The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=US;a= ;p=xxxxxxxx;l=C3P0-010919143416Z-36
MSEXCH:IMS:xxxxxxxxxxx Components:TATOOINE:C3P0 3554 (000B09AA) 554 Transaction failed

Again, thanks for any and all help you can provide.
