Webmasters, ecommerce marketers, domain owners, and others involved in marketing client sites, products, and services need to be very aware of plugins and software that are being superimposed on existing websites. If you are not familiar with who orwhat is stealing your hard-earned traffic, you need to know!
For brevity, I did not post my article here, but you may read about TOPText, a plug-in bundled with the popular file-sharing software KaZaA (currently boasting 5.4 million downloads) that will superimpose links on EVERY website that had key words, phrases or topics to go to an advertisers site that has purchased those keywords. That means if someone purchases keywords in your industry, people with TOPText on their computer system will see your webpage presented with your COMPETITORS links on the keywords written in your text ON YOUR WEBSITE PAGES as if it were links that you placed there yourself.
Confusing? Don’t let it be. Read about it in detail in the article on http://www.cyberfieds.com and then take part in the 4 question survey to voice your opinion in this matter. It is extremely important to protect our intellectual property from this type of piracy deceptively sold to unwitting clients as “advertising”.
