HotSync Cell Phone with Palm?

Dear All:

A user I support has a Palm IIIc and a brand new Nokia 7160 cell phone. He would like the cell phone to act as a modem for the Palm, so that he can dial into the network, and HotSync with his laptop (plugged into the network back at the office).
Does he need a Palm modem to make this work, or can he just connect the cell phone and the Palm unit together?
This question may sound stupid, but Palms are funny in a lot of ways….
