HP BRIO – HP 1100A Compatability Problem

Has anyone run into an issue where a HP BRIO 410 and a HP 1100A printer won’t speak to each other when the Parallel Port is set to ECP mode? I’ve tried new printer, new cable, new motherboard. Printer will not print when bi-directional communications are enabled.
