HP IDE CD-RW still hangs on Win98 first

by thamboo . Updated 25 years, 11 months ago

Here is the problem.I have an IBM Aptiva 500 series 2158, Win 98, CD-DVD drive. I recently installed a HP IDE, CD-RW 8250i and mapped it to D drive. I am able to view both the CD-DVD drive ( G drive ) and the CD-RW both in the win explorer and system Info.

When I click on Direct CD or Easy CD Writer, it just hangs…and locks the system. I have to reboot again..

I have tried the following :
1. Renamed my CD-DVD to D drive and CD-RW
to E Drive.
2. Renamed scsi1hlp.vxd to scsci1hlp.hp since
HP CD-RW conflicts with this file in the
iosubsys. A HP Techie asked me to do this.
3. uncheck DMA in the device properties for
CD-RW

Suggestion are welcome please. Thanks.

Daniel
