I can’t record via line-in

I am trying to record music via line-in. I can hear the music through my PC’s speakers but when recording (using the MusicMatch software), I cannot hear the recording. I have checked and enabled my Windows sound settings. I feel I’m missing something simple and obvious. Help!!
