I/O Parallel Port/card check

Is there a free(if poss) program to check my parallel port operation. I am having trouble with my printer on this machine only, but not others, yet my scanner works fine off the same port. I have checked cables, drivers, etc. so it seems there maybe slightly different pin or other usages between printers and scanners and that the printer usage is damaged.

My system is:
Win2K
800MHz
No-name I/O card
Canon 4200 Ink-Jet printer
UMEX Astra 2000 Parallel Port Scanner
