IE 5.0

Recently, I began to have browser problems with IE 5.0, specifically, I will type addresses in and IE will not open. The problem, as I see it, has something to do with this:
On the left of the address, instead of seeing the IE icon, rather, I see the Windows icon.
I know neither what this means nor how to uninstall IE. Any answers?
