I have two computers running Windows 98 and Internet Explorer – one at home and one at work. They are identical in all respects except that the one at home is connected to an internal modem and the one at work to a networked modem.
I have no Internet or email connection problems with the computer at work. However, I have big problems with the one at home. Often, if email or a webpage stops loading before complete, I am unable to connect to the ISP. (Therefore not able to connect to email or any website). This also happens if I click on one link before another has completed loading. This is despite the fact that the computers at the bottom of the screen are blinking away and listening on the phone and checking the connection shows that my time is still ticking away; I am still connected.
Deleting Internet Explorer via the Close Program box has no effect although sometimes if I bring up this box and click “cancel” it comes good again. The only way I can fix things is to reboot the computer. This costs me in terms of telephone charges.
Can any kind person out there advise me how to get the connection working again without rebooting or disconnecting?
