Inteternal Zip Drive Conflicts

I installed an internal zip drive on a brand new computer and when I rebooted it, the cd rom (where I slaved the zip drive) no longer had power, and it said both drives weren’t there. I made sure that both ide controllers were enabled, and the cdrom was master and zip was slave, but neither of them work. when I take the zip off the daisy chain, the cd rom works fine. what could be the problem?
