Let me start out by saying, I am not Anti-Linux, or Pro-Windows. I will learn/use anything that works best for a given situation. I have no loyalty for software vendors.
I have been reading many threads on this board where admins are saying thatthey are getting ready to switch over to Linux from Windows (or at least talking about it). Various reasons have been given (many uneducated reasons as well), but I just don’t know what they are thinking.
Most of the pro-“Linux in the office” people are extremely technical, and for some reason, expect that average end users are ready for the shocking differences in Linux and Windows. Let’s not forget to mention how much more difficult Linux is to use.
I will make this short and sweet. Iwill be damned if I would throw Linux at the users in my office. They grew up on Windows. I can not even begin to imagine the support nightmare, learning curve, and loss of productivity that would ensue.
I don’t know about you guys, but this situation would have me in the unemployment line.
Personally, I think Linux is a few years (and a few billion bucks) away from being a solution at home or in the office. Mac OSx has a better shot IMO.
What is your opinion. Flames are welcome.
