Is there a PCI install problem ?

I tried installing the sb pci 512 into my son’s computer, but it does not produce any audio, I changed the slot, forced the irq in the bio and
changed the ranges still no sound. Is there a known problem with the sound card? Creative Labs nor gigabyte could not help.Is there a software problem?
