Laptop in the Frig?

Has anyone heard of this? My boss is having problems with his laptop and just told us this morning that he put it in the refrigerator. That didn’t appear to help.
I’m thinking that if he did this because it was too hot, putting it in the frig is a short term fix.
Was wondering, too, if that could cause any damage to it.
Your thoughts?
