laptop reboots if accessed on the net.

Laptop reboots when accessed from the network.
I have a 700 series ctx international ezbook model laptop. I am running win 98, with 72mb ram and a 2 gig hard drive. I am installing a linksys etherfast 10/100, 16 bit pc card into it.
When installedand connected to the 8 port, 3com hub that I have, I can see the other computer that is on the network, but if I try to access any data from system to system, the laptop reboots,(I have files shared on both systems). This is using tcp/ip protocol. I can ping each computer without causing a reboot.
