Laptop Trouble

Hi, I’m having trouble with friends laptop I’m doing some work on, during initial bootup it freezes after completing the memory check and all I get is a flashing cursor. I can’t boot from a system disk for some reason and attempting to access bios doesn’t work using any default keys I know (del, esc, F2).

The model is a Toshiba Satellite 430 CDT. any help even accessing the bios would be great.
