Loss of colours

The only colours visible(available) on my system are black, white, blue and yellow…none of the others display correctly. My VGA is built-in to the motherboard, but I have already tried bypassing it using a VGA card..correct driver etc etc…even lowering the screen resolution as suggested by the Help facility…nothing seems to work. Suggestions/solutions would be very welcome.
