Loss of Keyboard

I am a Hardware Technician working with Dell Optiplex GX1 Computers of various speeds, and I have a recurring problem that is hard to trace. What happens is that the user will be using the computer, and the keyboard will stop responding. It does not seem to happen when running a specific application, but rather seems to happen for no reason. Any thoughts as to what is going on here?
