Lotus Notes and MAPI

Does anybody know how to get the Notes MAPI client to work, I’m sure it can be done. I can get it installed but, everytime I try to use it, it asks for the Notes password which is okay but, then it wants to open Exchange which we do not want to use. Any takers.
