Low Resources

I have a dell 1Ghz with 1/2MB Ram and a DSL connect under windows ME. I like to listen to new radio over Inet while working.
After a period of time I will get grid lock (system will freeze). I think its low resources. Deleting from the Program Taskmenu doesn’t help (cntrl/alt/esc) even though there is a lot of stuff in there. I have also gone into msconfig and checked my startup stuff.
Is there a way to increase hi-ram area? or any ideas on what I can try?
