Memory problem

I have a laptop and when ever I get into a program it tells me that I have insuffient memory.

I check my memory in DOS and my convential memory says it has about 65,000 memory and I’ve used my expanded memory already.

The memory amount flucuates. I believe that my memory is being up even if I’m not using any programs. I did an antivirus check and nothing came up.
Please advise me on what I should do.
