Missing Cab File

by rejette . Updated 24 years, 2 months ago

My Win98 has lost the Win.com command overnight. Per Microsoft’s Knowledgebase Support Page, in order for me to replace a missing/damaged cab file, I must insert the Win98 startup disk and then the Windows 98 CD-Rom and follow the instructions on the screen to extract the needed file. Well…I’ve tried this and it still I get an error message that says: “unable to load ….”. Is there anything else I can do? I’m considering borrowing someone elses Win98 startup disk to see if it will work. Apparently, I need the Win.cnf file which resides in the Win98_25.cab file which is where the Win.com file hangs out. I am then to copy and rename it to my c: drive. Any input is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!
