Missing Export Causing Major App. Issues

by it greenhorn . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

Yesterday, not knowing very much about networking, I handed over the reins of my PC to someone who didn’t know much more than I. By mid morning the network wasn’t up yet, so in frustration my friend forced a second 3com nic into the system.

The result was a major mess. As the network was going in, I (not surprisingly) had some issues along the way. Last evening I made the attempt to check “System Information” in “System Tools”. What I got back was, “Red X D:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\MSINFO32.EXE A device attached to the system is not functioning.”

I clicked “OK”, then I get, “Yellow ! The MSVCIRT.DLL file is linked to the missing export MSCVRT.DLL:??_U@YAPAXI@Z”.

Other applications I have noticed besides Sys. Info. being affected by this, are: WebTV for Windows, and Micrografx Windows Draw. (Possibly also networking as well)

I spent the day trying different things. I booted a normal start up, I removed start up items, I removed WebTV and reloaded, I uninstalled Micrografx and reinstalled, I removed Sys. Tools and reloaded, I removed uneeded program Files and any missed registry keys, I removed Networking and reloaded, oh and last night I reloaded Windows. I also ran norton’s diagnostics, everything checked out on it except for networking which caused a blue screen fault. I printed norton’s report for the network tab. It said, ” Network resources not found (may be disconnected)”.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can doto fix this issue?

I attempted to do a restore from my seagate tape drive. It too suffers from this issue, and so I can not restore.

I am running a 1 gig t-bird, asus mobo, asus geforce 2, plextor rw-cdrom, cd-rom, seagate tape backup, 100 gigs of space on 3 maxtor hdd’s, 512 MB RAM, sb live platnum, 3com nic, ext. cable modem, generic hybrid 8 port hub, aopen dial up modem, win 98se.
