Modem

I have a Dell Optiplex GX110 computer. Lighting hit close to my home and zapped my modem. I installed a new modem and loaded the drivers for it. When I go to control panel and click on the modem icon and go to the diagnostic tap and do more informtaion to test the modem it gives me the error message “Cannot open port”. Any suggestions on how to resolve the problem? I have deleted the modem and reinstalled the drivers but I still get the same error message.
