Modem tones from two separate dialers.

I currently have two separate dial-up sessions on my computer. One uses W98SE dial-up networking and the other is a proprietary dialer. When I connect through the W98SE DUN session, I hear the modem tones and I do not hear them through the proprietary dialer. I have the modem speaker turned off through control panel, modem properties. Any suggestions on how to silence the modem tones through the W98SE DUN session?
