more info on sound problem

I have a sounfd problem and nobody has been able to help me but here is new info. The problem is with my sound schemes and wav files. I go to sounds in my control panel and click on a sound scheme and then click browse. All my sound schems come up. I right click on one and go to preview sound and get this message. MSYSTEM 326 no wave device that can play files in the current format is installed. But I can right click and select play and it will play it through media player. Can anyone help because it has also left me without sound on web pages also.
