My cd burner won’t work and I need help.

My burner is recognized by windows(98) and the bios but when I put a cd in it and try to access it I always get an error that the drive is inaccessable. There are no conflicts on my computer and if I use my cdrom drive, I can view the contents of the disc with no problem.
I would appreciate if someone could help me as soon as possible.
