My modem disconnects when faxing

by phoenixx46 . Updated 25 years, 8 months ago

I have a viking 56k USB modem, my operating system is windows98se, a pentium III 600mhz cpu, 128 mb ram and a ASUS P2BF MB. The problem I am encountering is that when I try to fax a document, the modem dials the phone number and then gives the following prompts: setting up the fax, fax connecting, connecting; now when the modem says connecting, it then after a few seconds powers off. I have installed and uninstalled the software which QuickLink III, a smithmicro product. I have also entered various init strings which are included in the manual for the modem. I have also uninstalled and installed the drivers. Now heres the interesting part I downloaded a shareware called Just the Fax and the shareware product after trying to fax a document caused the modem to power off, however when I used the init-string the documentation recommended, the fax connection was successful. I had no problems before I replaced my overclocked Celeron 300mhz with the Pentium III ( I also reformatted my hard drive).
