Need TDK CDRW Drive change Into Plextor

My TDK 121032 Velocd CD-RW is a rebranded Plextor. The hardware is identical internally. However, the TDK lacks several important features of the Plextor. I would like to install firmware or one of the BIN files of the Plextor and have the drive recognized as such and hopefully perform as well as the Plextor. About a year ago, I did see information on the Net about a means of accomplishing this.

Step by step, what is the easiest and most efficient way to accomplish this?
