Nero 5 in WinXP

When I start Nero 5.5.5 or the new 5.5.9 under Windows XP, the software hangs at Scanning IDE/SCSI bus. Any thoughts? I have downloaded all patches for XP (including the Application Compatibility Patch and CD-Burning patch).

Gigabyte GA-6BXc mobo
Quantum 15 Gb Hd (primary master)
HP 7100 IDE CD Burner (slave master)
Yamaha PCI Sound Card
Matrox G400 video card.
