new cdrw installed but cannot record.

I just purchased a cdrw manf. by LITE-ON mod.# 12101B 12X:10X:32X and the drive plays but whichever cdwriter program i use (directcd;media player;sonic foundry; & a couple others) all say that the cdr cannot be recorded to because it is unsupported.have windows 98 thank you.
