New Modem not found by PnP. Why?

I am running Windows ME, 128 RAM, AMD K7.
I have removed a faulty Diamond Supra 56i Pro.
I have fitted a Dynamode V.92 internal modem to the PCI slot.
The PC fails to recognise that a new modem has been fitted.
PnP, Install/Remove New Hardware has no effect.
The Supra and its associated software have been removed.
PCI slot 4 is recognised on boot up as containing a communications device, IRQ 10.
Editing the registry for residual Supra info is ongoing but to no effect so far.

Any advice would be welcome.
