new to the field (in classes now)

I am new to the it field I am currently taking a course to prepare me for mcse cert. I am currently unemployed since I don’t have any certs yet I would like to know is it still possible to get on the job training such as a help desk position to gainthe hands on experience i need to have a better understanding? (as I’ve been reading it is recommended to have 6 to 12 months exp. b4 going for the mcse)
