No audio sound with music CD’s

I have a Celeron 466 machine with a Sony DVD drive. It has worked fine in the past but has now stopped working with Music CD’s… that is, the software boots and shows the time elapsing etc but no sound. The sound does work with windows and with video on computer magazine CD’s. I’m bemused by this so any help greatly appreciated. Rob
