No beeps on startup

I have just installed an ASUS P4B motherboard and an Intel P4 1.6 Ghz 478-pin processor. Most of the MBs for P4 don’t have jumpers, but this one has them as optional. I tried booting the PC with the default MB settings (supposed to work with ALL P4s) but I get no beeps. I do, however, have power and lights. I thought I should set the jumper settings, but I cannot find any information on what settings my processor uses. I have unplugged, re-plugged, and checked all settings. The PC should beep even if just the MB, processor & power supply are the only things plugged in, right? Any help would be appreciated.
