no boot after installing new vga card

I have bought a new ati agp graphics card and when I install it the pc will not boot up. Nothing appears on the screen and no beeps are heard from the bios. I would have thought if the card was faulty it would beep a few times. My older agp cad works fine. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
