No FAT partitions on hard drive

My comp. would not bootup. Once I got it to boot it told me no operating system found. So I put in a startup disk and tried to boot without cd rom support and it told me the hard drive was missing FAT or FAT32 partitions. Does this mean my harddrivegot wiped out somehow?
