No Sound

Troubleshooting a PC with AC97 sound on m/b, there is no sound out of sound port. Speakers check good, all connections are tight, new PC, new m/b. No sound from DVD or CD Rom earphone ports either. Clicking on sounds and using PC produced sounds, none are produced. PC speaker does beep once after POST run. Diagnosis?
