No video from newly hatched Frankenstein

I’m putting together an Athlon 850 system from parts — my second building project.

All components except the monitor are very new: untested and uninitialized. There is no readily available second system that I can use as a testbed.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Slot A, no audio, no video
RAM: 256mb
HD: Seagate 20gb
Video: Pine TNT M64
Monitor: an ANCIENT Acer UVGA 14″

The monitor is old, but works fine on my laptop and other systems. All other components are fresh out of the box.

Problem: I’m not getting any video output. Nothing. No POST, no BIOS. Nada. The onboard speaker outputs nothing – no beeps.

Any suggestions?
