Non working floppy drive

I decided to post a question after reading the article on non working floppy drives. Mine hasn’t worked for some time and I can’t figure out why. On boot up the drive lights up, but from then on it’s as if it’s not there. When I click on My Computer3? Floppy (A:) shows along with the other drives, but when I try to access it nothing happens. When I click on this to access it nothing happens other than the computer freezing for a couple minutes, then telling me A:\ is not accessible & the device is not ready. I’m looking for suggestions.
