NT password problem

I have recently started working at a school that has had many personnel changes recently. I have discovered that no one knows the password for the NT Administator logon. Is there any way to change it? I also need to know the easiest way to MAKE SUREthat I am logged on as an administrator with another account. It looks like it but then I find I am denied access to some folders.
