Older Compaq printerport vs scanner

Client’s scanner sees printerport as Standard rather than EPP. port is ECP. Scanner is fine other than a message that says it would be faster if the port were setup as EPP. The message drives the client nuts. The computer is an ancient Compaq that runs a POINT TO POINT DRILLING & ROUTER device. Other than the obvious replace scanner &/OR PC does anyone have a suggestion that might be of use?
