Partition Problems on PC

by boogles . Updated 24 years ago

Here’s the story: My clients computer went berserk, beyond the point of even being able to recover it with scanreg *sigh*, so we went into DOS mode and recovered all of his wanted documents (using my handy zip drive). Then we tried once more (ditch attempt) to get windows working. Nothing. He had decided at that point it was allready pretty much worthless anyway, so we went to format. I formatted C drive, restarted, and then removed the partition, restarted, and put the partition back in again. Then restarted. It was back up and running off my bootdisk, so I typed in “C:”… nothing. Abort, retry, fail? In a vain attempt I pounded R (retry) several times (wishful thinking) and then pressed f (fail) and got a message about the partition name being invalid. So, I went back to the bootdisk, ran fdisk again… looked at the partition information and I said “unknown”. It was then that I realised that it had never PROMPTED me for a name when creating the partition. So, I deleted it again, then tried making it again… still unknown. I thought it might be my version of Fdisk being wacky… so I tried three other bootdisks. Same problem… Is there any help for this computer?
