Pbm with Compaq Presario 336 VSCI Modem

In fact I have downloaded the driver for the modem ,then after I have installed I tried to dial but the modem failed to dial and I get a message saying that the modem is being used by another application or by another dial up network and I would like to know so that my modem can work properly.
