Pc Dead On Boot-Up

Odd one this….. The Pc fires up, disks spin, power fan and cpu work, but the monitor displays nothing, not even bios screen. I have tried different monitors and vise cards but exactly the same occurs. There is only one ram chip installed (128mb)and I wondered could it be that taht is knackered and if I took it out, would you expect the pc to boot.?
