PC Intermitantly freezing upon NT 4.0 B

by masnek . Updated 23 years, 10 months ago

How do I troubleshoot the following? Original situation error message appeared on POST screen for several weeks “system is abnormal” and displayed CPU temperatures. Last week PC halted and stated CPU Fan had 0 RPM. CPU fan stopped working, so I replaced fan. Temperature error disappeared but now can’t get into NT 4.0. PC successfully completes POST. Whether I select NT ,NT VGA mode, or last known good, pc hangs at blue screen. After a few days I was able to boot into Windows w/o problem for a few hours after normal Windows Operations. During the few hours of operations, I shut pc down removed isa component (phone card) and replaced it. I successfully booted back into NT several times with and w/o phone card. IT was only after I placed the lid on the pc and decided it was an anomaly that when the problem resurfaced( pc hung at NT boot up blue screen )I deciced to test stability once more by shutting pc down and rebooting. Once I turned pc back on, it hung at blue screen again.
