PC Running Processes

I’m running Win 2K on my PC. Do you have a list of Mandatory Processes that must by running on my PC as a minimum. I ask this question because I have a slew of processes running that I don’t think I need running, which are stealing my computers processors Time, making my PC run very slow. Also, how can I edit permanently what’s running on my PC regarding these processes?, so thay don’t start up again when I boot my PC again.
