PC will not boot after major surgery

by joakim.kosmo . Updated 25 years, 4 months ago

Ive ripped out the content of a old PC and put it into a new box. The hardware is mostly the same except that I’ve changed the sound card, and the nc has changed slot.
The PC runs on a Abit LC Motherboard with an Award bios. It has a 2 HardDisc (both Large). Ive Linux boot prompt, with both a Windows and a Linux partition somewhere (I cant remember on which disc)
After changing the box, the PC will not boot. First I just got my boot prompt, but was unable to start Windows, and Linux was unable to mount root parition.
After a lot of experimentation, with changing IDE chanel + Master/ Slave ++++. I do not even get the boot prompt. Now after counting the RAM, and finding the discs the PC just die, the monitor stops reciving any video signal from the PC. Even if I try to boot from a floppy this happens. (I might have messed up the BIOS somehow).
Please advice as the PC contained my only electronic version of my old master thesis, which I had plans to publish on my web site.
